Wastebeater in New Drive to Boost Translink's Recycling Levels
A leading local recycling company has been awarded a new contract worth over one million pounds to provide recycling services for Translink across all of its sites throughout Northern Ireland.
Wastebeater, who provide industry leading waste management and recycling solutions to commercial and industrial customers throughout Northern Ireland, have been awarded a £1.5 million contract to service eighty Translink sites across Northern Ireland. Wastebeater will provide and service approximately 250 waste containers ranging in size from 240 litre bins up to twenty cubic yard roll on-roll off skips. In addition, Wastebeater will carry out 330 collections at Translink sites every week, lifting approximately fifty tonnes of waste each week, helping Translink to recycle the majority of its waste materials.
Kieran Byrne Managing Director of Wastebeater said: “We are thrilled to have formed this long term partnership with Translink and to be working with them to recycle the majority of their waste. At Wastebeater we are committed to helping companies and organisations, large and small, to meet their duty of care to manage their waste responsibly. We work with our clients to develop tailor made waste management solutions to help increase their recycling rates. Translink are one of the latest companies to benefit from effective waste management and with our help, are now recycling more waste than ever before.”
As part of the five year contract, a total of 13,000 tonnes of waste will be collected and then sorted for recycling using a sophisticated process. This process involves the use of Near Infra Red technology to optically sort the waste automatically.
Highlighting how the new contract will deliver significant environmental benefits, Andy Bate, Environmental Officer at Translink said: “We actively promote the environmental benefits of using bus and rail but we also take steps to reduce our own impact on the environment. This new recycling scheme is the latest in a range of measures which have been implemented in order to continue to improve sustainability and environmental management within our own business and across NI in general. We are delighted to be working with Wastebeater who are helping us play our part in providing a better environment for all.”
